5/31 SUNDAY Ride

Well, dagnabbit, the weather is just staying disagreeable, with rain and cold on Evan's Notch, so we're going to err on the side of caution and punt the White Mountain ride once again. But that means there is room in our day for a local ride tomorrow.

Let's keep our legs strong and take a little spin out towards Bonny Eagle and Bar Mills for 53 miles and 2400' for climbing; if people are feeling extra eager, you can tack on an extra ten miles and 500' with a little dog leg up to Limington.

Let's get underway before the weather has a chance to play spoiler: wheels roll at 8:00.

5/30 Saturday Ride

Well, so much for Saturday--looks like a good day for ducks. 😕

But, due to the fact that we had to bump the White Mountain Ride to this weekend, and then to Sunday (9:00 so far...stay tuned), I have no ride planned in Portland this weekend.

White Mountain Memorial Day Ride POSTPONED

POSTPONED

The weekend is here and the weather looks cold and wet; cold, wet, and screaming downhills seem like a bad combination, so we are postponing until Saturday, May 30th.

5/23 SMR and White Mountain Bump?

We'll be giving the Legs of Steel a little breather tomorrow--they've earned it--and the big day is almost upon us.

The weather, however, still looks to be against us for Monday. We'll wait until Saturday around noon to make a final call but look for a bump to Saturday the 30th--keep an eye on your email, Strava, Facebook or here for the decision. In the meantime, let's take a little sojourn around Highland Lake.

It should be a mild morning, so wheels roll at 8:00.

5/16 SMR: Legs of Steel Warmup #4

Don't look now, but we may actually have a beautiful Saturday to ride bikes! It couldn't happen at a better time, because the Raymond Hills are up (and down, and up...).

We'll have a later start to give you a chance to get to Mabel Wilson School in Cumberland Center. Be sure to bring two bottles and a snack--the watering holes are at Pinelands (8 miles), the Dunkin Donuts in Poland (28 miles), and the Circle K at Shaker Rd (50 miles).

There is no reasonable shortcut for this route so, once you're in, you're in for it all, but it's a great ride--we're going to take every road that has the word "hill" in it so, after this, you will have nothing to fear on Memorial Day!

Wheels roll at 9:00.

Legs of Steel Warmup #3

Last week we had distance, this week we add hills. We'll head to Pineland via every road named "hill" we can find and then swing out into Pownal and South Durham to come home via Freeport. There are shorter routes, too, so don't panic.

Right now, it looks like we may get the full course in before the rain if we leave at 8; we'll plan to check the weather once we get to Pinelands and modify the route home, if necessary. Most of the climbing is front-loaded so, if we have to shorten things up or you don't have the time, you'll still get the climbing workout in.

Wheels roll at 8:00.
